City life / Canal Club notebook
Good plans for rainy days.
A compact guide to enjoying the city when the weather changes its mind.
Give the day a smaller radius
Choose one neighbourhood instead of crossing the whole city. A bookshop, a covered market and a warm place to sit can make a complete afternoon. Shorter distances leave room for the pauses the weather demands.
Look through the glass
Rain changes light as well as plans. Reflections become sharper, windows become frames and familiar streets sound different. Carry a small notebook and notice what the dry-weather version hides.
Have a dry finish
Keep a spare layer in your bag and leave the final hour unplanned. Going home early is not a failed outing. Sometimes a good day ends with warm socks, soup and the book you found along the way.
